"Display driver stopped responding, etc" (Event ID 4101)
System: Windows 7 Ultimate Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 6870 1GB GDDR5 (Made by powercolor) Hello, I'm having a problem with my computer/ graphics card and get the message "Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered." Upon checking my Event Log I found that it's event ID is 4101 as outlined here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/b00646c8-457f-4363-a6f4-f5c2782edc16.aspx The problem is as follows. When I'm playing a game (like Guild Wars), sporadically my screen freezes for about 5 seconds, then goes black, and then returns to the game. If I minimize fast enough I see the error message (above) displayed. I have tried several solutions I found around the web, but I've had no luck getting the problem to stop happening. This is what I have already tried: 1. Completely removed Catalyst Control Center (Uninstalled using control panel add/remove programs and ran driver sweeper to get anything it missed) and reinstalled my graphics driver. 2. Made sure my windows update is, well, up to date. 3. Re-seated (and used dust remover air can on) my graphics card. 4. Kept track of my card temperatures. (No problem here, it's running cool) 5. Exchanged my ram (2 x 2GB sticks) for different ram. Same size, new brand. 6. Upgraded to Corsair 700W powersupply. 7. Switched from HDMI to DVI cable for my monitor. 8. Updated my motherboard BIOS. Even after trying all these things I'm still having the problem. I'm at my wits end. Help?

A. ad.2. Have you look into WindowsUpdate.log to be sure that there are no problem? B. I would recommend to address AMD support/community. Chances are that this is card specific issue. Regards Milos

A. I haven't checked out the WindowsUpdate.log, and I'm not exactly sure how to go about doing so either heh. Any tips? B. Normally I'd agree but if you check out the microsoft page I linked to above, people will all sorts of cards (AMD, nvidia, etc) are having the exact same problem. One thing I've noticed is every single one of them is using windows 7 (and in one case, windows 8). Do you think downgrading to XP might fix the issue?
